Intertwined

 2/28/23

I've tried reading this book before and I thought that due to my mind set at the time, I couldn't finish or even get far in the book. Well, it appears to be not the case. The book is a little slow. I even resorted to getting an audiobook for it so I can listen to it while playing video games or before I go to bed. It's worked so far until recently I was so tired after suffering a migraine, that I ended up falling asleep through two chapters. I had to read those two chapters myself to figure out what is going on in the book. It appears not much. So far this book has told me that our main character Aden is different and he is treated like his is crazy because for some reason he is tied to the supernatural world. I guess that is the whole mystery of the book. You are reading to find out more about Aden along with Aden. He's been moved around and put in hospitals instead of anyone trying to help him understand what is going on. Poor thing. But he at least meets a girl named Mary Ann who is introduced into the supernatural world suddenly after meeting Aden for the first time in the very beginning of the book. She has a mysterious wolf following her around. The wolf is actually a shifter but we don't know who the wolf really is. Just theories. But that is about it. Nothing much is going on other than people talking and asking questions to each other when they don't know the answer themselves. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

I'm sure if I were younger and still in my vampire phase, I would enjoy this book. But I am neither so it is slow and a little boring to me. A lot of descriptions and mysteries that aren't really being solved. I am still waiting for the book to pick up. So far it has been just the same thing over and over and over. Aden does travel in time but that wasn't even that exciting. Just him being showed that he knew Mary Ann's father from when he was in a hospital. That is as much as I gathered from listening to the audiobook. I'm pretty much at the point where I just wish the book would end. I don't hate this book. I see the potential it holds. But it is also only for young readers who are in that paranormal phase like I was when Twilight was starting to be a big hit. If only I read this book during that time.

Well, yet another book where they wait until the very end to get interesting. I think this is the second book this month so far and it is by the same author. Maybe that is just Gena Showalter's writing style. I just never noticed it until after my hiatus. Anyways the book is okay. It isn't for me. I do plan on listening to the second book in the series. It's something nice to listen to while I play some mindless game like Minecraft at work. Would I recommend this book? If you don't mind the slow burn of the book, go ahead and check it out. But if you are like me and like action right away, this isn't the book for you. If you are into paranormal and don't mind a slow book that talks about background more than the actual plot, this might be your book. I'm sure that is why the book was so slow. The author was building a world and giving background on each character to progress the series. Hopefully the second book is a bit better. I just feel like there were parts that were repeating and it just helped the book drag on. The book has potential but there is room for improvement. The encounter with the witches could have been more exciting than a death threat before they leave and never be heard from again. Seeing Tucker's experience actually changed him for the better or not. Even seeing Ozzy getting caught and Aden watching him being arrested would have been interesting instead of just hearing about it. There was so much more that could have been explored but the opportunities were missed. I will not say how the book ended but even that could have used a little more improvement. Sadly the book gets two stars from me. I wanted to like it but I couldn't. It just feels like it is lacking a little bit.
