Finished reading Marked

Hey there Bookies,

This book was a pretty quick read for me. Well I mostly listened to the audiobook because it's something to do while I work on programing stuff at work. Anyways the book was short and it was something I needed after dealing with books that felt like they took forever. Also I kind of knew what this book was about ahead of time due to the many times I had to restart this series. Hopefully this will be the last time. Anyway our main character is Zoey. She lived a life with a religious stepfather and her pushover mother. We see how these two parental figures are when Zoey first gets marked. Instead of understanding that Zoey needs to go to the Houses of Night, they think she is only marked because she is a bad teen. Then lock her in her room and call the church group to start a prayer tree. As if God could save Zoey from making the family look bad any more than she has. Of course doing this puts Zoey at risk because she has to be near her kind for some reason or she dies. So in desperate need to survive, Zoey runs away to her grandmother's house because she will be more understanding along with knowing what to do. But Zoey ends up passing out and encounters a goddess. Then wakes up at the House of Night with her grandmother by her side. Feeling much better, Zoey is taken in to the school and is introduced to her mentor/high priestess. Also to her roommate who is a wholesome young Oklahoma girl. If I remember correctly, something bad happens to the roommate Stevie Rae, but that is later in the series. For now, Zoey is introduced to Stevie Rae's small group of friends and they all create an instant bond of friendship. The friendship gets put to the test later in the book, but you will have to read the book to find out what happens. Anyways Zoey get invited to a Daughter's of Darkness ritual for the full moon. Really they just invited her because they had to and also they just wanted her to feel like she was a freak and didn't belong. Well, it sort of worked. Leaving the ritual upset, Zoey finds the cat meant for her and she names it Nala. Also she encounters her two old friends from her old school because they came to bust her out of the school. She tries to make them leave but one refuses to because they are also her ex-boyfriend who just can't take a hint. They get in a small scuffle because she is trying to get him to leave and then blood is drawn. Zoey gets a reaction that is not common for a young fledgling like herself and she is a little freaked about it. She later tells her mentor about it but she doesn't want to be treated differently at this school than she already is, so she is given some books she has to do as homework to read about the new changes she is going through. There is more in the book but I'm just summarizing because I want you to read the book yourself and come up with your own opinions. I'm not going to tell you more because again I want you to read the book. The book is a good cleanser after having read long books for a long time. To me it feels a little lighthearted even though it isn't even close to lighthearted. But I feel like teen problems are easier to read about than the ones I was reading about these past few months.

So until next time....
