Been reading Intertwined by Gena Showalter

Hey there Bookies,

I've tried reading this book before and I thought that due to my mind set at the time, I couldn't finish or even get far in the book. Well, it appears to be not the case. The book is a little slow. I even resorted to getting an audiobook for it so I can listen to it while playing video games or before I go to bed. It's worked so far until recently I was so tired after suffering a migraine, that I ended up falling asleep through two chapters. I had to read those two chapters myself to figure out what is going on in the book. It appears not much. So far this book has told me that our main character Aden is different and he is treated like his is crazy because for some reason he is tied to the supernatural world. I guess that is the whole mystery of the book. You are reading to find out more about Aden along with Aden. He's been moved around and put in hospitals instead of anyone trying to help him understand what is going on. Poor thing. But he at least meets a girl named Mary Ann who is introduced into the supernatural world suddenly after meeting Aden for the first time in the very beginning of the book. She has a mysterious wolf following her around. The wolf is actually a shifter but we don't know who the wolf really is. Just theories. But that is about it. Nothing much is going on other than people talking and asking questions to each other when they don't know the answer themselves. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

So until next time....

Finished reading Scythe

 Hey there Bookies,

The good thing about snow storms is that you get to have more time on your hands to either read or listen to an audiobook while playing video games. I didn't think I would finish this book so quick. It got pretty interesting in the end. It was interesting to see what cruelty drives a person to do. I can't tell you how the book ended because that would spoil the whole thing. The second half is the two apprentices learning how to be Scythes. One through compassion and the other through cruelty. So depending on how they student is taught determines how the student turns out at the end of the final test. Everything has a cause and an effect. This book really sent that message. Sadly I still can't get past the world building. I felt like at times that I was really getting into the plot and the author is like "Oh I forgot this detail of the world, let me explain." I looked forward to the second book though because now that the world building should be done, I can focus on what happens to Citra and Rowan. But until then I'm going to read the other books I got from the library.

So until next time....

Halfway through Scythe

Hello Bookies,

World building. That is all I have to say about this book. It has a lot of world building in it. Maybe even more details that I would like to care about to be honest. But the concept is interesting. Even though I feel like the world building is kind of interfering with the plot. From what I understand, the plot is about these two kids from different backgrounds get chosen to be come Scythe Apprentices. They are learning to become Scythes themselves but because they are under the same Scythe and only one can be picked, the Scythedom has decided that the chosen one will have to kill the other. In an attempt to save these two kids from such a fate, the Scythe that took them under their wing sacrifices himself. I guess he was hoping that if he died, the two kids were free to go back to their normal lives. But two other Scythes step up and take one of the two kids. One Scythe is known for their cruelty and not following the rules all that much. The other Scythe is a historic figure that killed the last president that ever lived before the world changed. That is as far as I got. The two kids are now trying to adapt to life with their new Scythe mentor while fearing that one will have to kill the other. I do feel like this book is dragging on a bit but it probably has to do with all of the world building. I'm the type of person that thinks you have at least two, maybe three, chapters to build your world and then just focus on the plot. I feel like the world building is continuous in this book but I'm sure it ended a while back. It just feels like that. As far as I can tell about this book, it's an okay book. I don't hate it and I don't love it. It's kind of in the middle so far.

So until next time....

Starting to read Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Hello there Bookies,

I'm on to my next book. This one is officially on my TBR list and I don't remember where I heard of this book. I also don't remember what it is about. But the cover is beautiful and cool all at the same time. I have a bit of a cold so I don't plan on reading that quickly between work and sleep but I will try. Maybe I will see if the library has the audiobook for this available. Or, see if there is someone reading it on Youtube. The was what I did with We Were Liars. Anyway I am excited to read this book and I look forward to see if I like it. I know nothing and that is how I like to go into a new book. That way the reaction is more genuine.

So until next time...

Finished reading Hold on Tight

Hello Bookies,

I stayed up late to finish this book. In all honesty, I was only going to read a chapter or two, but ended up finishing instead. The drama in this book wasn't too....dramatic but it was there. Things were going pretty smooth once these two decided to finally be together until the mother of our leading lady showed up. She had to cause some trouble by revealing some news that our leading lady didn't know about. Our lead guy was just trying to protect her from that news because he wanted her to have happy memories of his brother. I did find our leading man planning on camping out on our leading lady's porch until she wanted to talk to him kind of cute. He was willing to give her space but be close enough if she needed him. Also how he proposed was kind of cute as well. The book is probably four stars. Almost got three because it was like a typical romance story. But I liked it.

So until next time....

About halfway through Hold on Tight

Hello Bookies,

Well, I might soon have more time to read in the near future. I had an interview at my favorite place in the world. That's right, I might be working at the library. Books all around. Anyway I guess I need to talk about the book I'm reading. I feel like I just started this book and I'm already halfway through. When I started this book it was just like every other romance story I have read. Girl loses her first love to a tragic accident and then is shipped off to where no one will see her again. Then she returns with the child of her first love but she is bitter because she believes everyone had abandoned her in a time of need. She also has sexual tension with the older brother of the first love. Then it is all push and pull between the two. The older brother keeps reminding himself that she is the mother of his nephew. She keeps telling herself that it will just end in heartache and blah blah blah. We've all had this kind of story before. It kind of feels like a Hallmark movie at this point. But the book is okay so far. I will admit that I did tear up a little bit at some parts and it is really hard for books to do that for me. I can say that this book isn't five stars but it is a possible four stars. We will find out once I finish the book.

So until next time....

Started reading Hold on Tight by Abbi Glines

Hey there Bookies,

Well, I remember nothing about this series other than it takes place in Sea Breeze. Reason why it is called the Sea Breeze series. I'm hoping that as I read this book things will come back to me. Kind of like when I was trying to remember the Rosemary Beach Series. I think I have one more book left after this one though for this series. I'm just trying to finish up the series I started and never finished. The good thing about this series though is that you can read any book and it won't effect the plot. I'm not sure if you can read them out of order but I've read them in order so I can't tell you how it will be like. But each book focuses on a couple in the Sea Breeze area. They are all related in a way but I can't remember how. I guess I will find out more once I actually start the book. Wish me luck.

So until next time...

Still reading Gone Girl

Hello Bookies,

This book is taking me awhile even with the audiobook. It is like this book can only be taken in small doses or you'll will be driven to complete boredom. At least that is my opinion. This book is slow. But apparently people liked it enough to make it into a movie. I'm almost halfway now but it is going to take me a while to even finish. I'll probably read other books while I take breaks from this one. But I can tell you up front, I don't like this book. It is just too slow for me. Yes, we have that mystery of what happened to Amy and where she could be. But so far that is all it is going for me. I'm just sticking around to see what is going on and if they will find Amy. That is it. I'll update more when I get further into the book.

So until next time...

Almost done reading Gwendy's Button Box

Hey there Bookies,

I think I need to slow down on the reading. I am almost done with yet another book and I don't have anymore at the moment. I guess I could grab one of the books on my shelf at home. Or, finish Gone Girl. But right now I just want to let Gwendy's Button Box sink in. I have a feeling that there is a deeper meaning to this book but for some reason my mind just can't process it. Anyways I did enjoy the book. The bully never left Gwendy alone even after she lost all her weight and because one of the top students in her school. Obsession can come in many forms. I do plan on reading more from both authors of this book. I just don't know when and I don't know what to tell you as an update with this book. It's short and a good quick read. It kept me busy while I sorted my TBR list. But I look forward to my next read. I wonder what I will pick up next.

So until next time...

Reading Gwendy's Button Box by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar

Hello Bookies,

I've been listening to the audiobook of this book. I'm starting to get into audiobooks and I solved the issue of the whole out of sight thing. As long as I have the physical copy with me, I don't forget about the audiobook. I sometimes read along. Most of the time I'm sorting my TBR list. Anyways the book is about this girl who is pretty much an outcast at school due to her weight. She started to work out every morning to loose that weight. But during one of her workouts she meets a strange man. This strange man give her a box with buttons and levers on it. The levers give gifts like chocolates and coins. But the buttons he never explains what they do. Just says which continent they are related to. Then the man disappears. Gwendy keeps the box safe and only uses it for the chocolates it gives. Her life is turning up for the better and she figures out what those buttons are for. Terrified of the box now, she hides it in a wall. But things get a little more crazy the longer she holds on to the box. For example, the boy who keeps bullying her ends up in a car crash and brakes his left arm in the same way that Gwendy had dreamt herself breaking his arm. Now she doesn't know what to think of the box.

So until next time...

Almost done reading We Were Liars

Hello Bookies,

Well, I almost finished the book. It was an interesting read and the majority of the book is just family members lying to Cady about what happened or just avoiding the subject. It was like they were told not to say anything as long as Cady didn't remember. I can't tell you what happened in the third part of this book. That would spoil the whole mystery. But I can tell you that most questions if not all get answered. I did enjoy this book and it did keep me reading, but I did have to pull out an audiobook to finish the book. About halfway it felt like the book was just repeating itself. It got a little boring for me, so I had to find an audiobook to follow along with. The book gets about three and a half stars from me but since I have to do full stars, I'll have to round down and give it three. The book was almost a four star book but the slow pace in the middle kind of hurt it in the end. But by being my first E. Lockhart book, I didn't hate it. I found it interesting and I do plan on reading more book by this author in the future. I just don't know when with a "To Be Read" list longer than 10,000 books. I have a long ways to go. Wish me luck.

So until next time...

Started reading We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Hello there Bookies,

Well, I started another book. This is one of the books I wanted to read during my 48 hour reading challenge but never got to. I didn't do too well on that challenge but I still had fun. Also as I started this book, I found out I could have checked off two prompts with this one book. It's a book I've been dying to read and it is under 300 pages. Oh well. Anyway the book is surrounding Cady Sinclair. I will be calling her by her nickname because I'm writing this post late at night meaning I have no energy to try to spell her real name. But that is besides the point. Cady talks about her family owning an island and how everyone has a place on the island. Also she explains how thing are different on the island during the summer and then no one hears from each other once it's over. It's kind of like this island is their own secret world. But Cady also says that she had an accident while staying at this island, but she can't remember much of what had happened. So she is hoping visiting the island will help her remember what had happened. I'm enjoying the book so far. The whole mystery of Cady's accident keeps me reading because I want to know as much as she does about what happened to her. I'm a third of the way through the book now and I know it is going to be pretty much then end when we find out what actually happened during Cady's accident. Wish me luck on how fast it is going to get me to find the answer.

So until next time...

Finished reading Last Kiss Goodnight

Hello Bookies,

Well I finished this book. I think saying that I finished reading it would be a lie since I listened to the audiobook for the whole book. Well not a whole lot has happened since I last updated. A few exciting things did happen, like the destruction of the circus. But I won't go into too much detail in any of that because that would spoil the book. But this book got about two stars from me. The book was a little slow and nothing ever exciting happened until the very end. I don't mind slow books but this one what slow. I'm pretty sure if I was actually reading it, I would still be struggling to read. So it was a good choice to do the audiobook with this book. I was able to get through it quick enough. Also I do plan on listening to the sequel of this book. I just don't know when I will get to it. But wish me luck when I do.

So until next time...

Halfway through Last Kiss Goodbye

Hey there Bookies,

I did try to read along with the audiobook but I almost fell asleep. Then I tried to read it on my own and I couldn't focus. Now I'm just listening to the audiobook while I reorganize my TBR list. So far that has been doing very well. Anyway the book is still going pretty slow. Nothing too exciting is happening. Just our main man, Solo, getting sold to a circus and meeting a very nice looking young lady who is the daughter of the owner of this horrible place. The whole book is basically Solo just trying to escape while also feeling some strong feelings towards Vika, the circus owner's daughter. That is it. That is the whole story so far. And I used to like books like this. My reading style has changed a lot since during my long break. I will try to finish the book, but I can say that I'm just glad I made it halfway through. Wish me luck on the rest.

So until next time...

Started reading Last Kiss Goodnight by Gena Showalter

Hello there Bookies,

I have picked up a book I tried to read long ago. I don't remember anything from it. I'm pretty sure this is one of the books I said I read but didn't actually read the book. I'm only like a chapter in and I can see why I didn't continue to read the book. It has a bit of a slow start. Hopefully it will pick up the more I read the book. I'm also using an audiobook to read along. I figured it would be faster that way, if I don't fall asleep listening to it. I have a pet peeve when it comes to audiobooks, especially this one. The narrator talks really quite in some points that I can't even hear what is being said. I'm also in a very quiet room so it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think we need to be whispering the majority of the book. But I will deal with it because I will never get this book done without the audiobook. I love Gena Showalter books, or at least I used to before my reading hiatus. It will be sad to know that my change in reading taste now finds her books boring. God, I hope not.

So until next time....

Finished reading The Junji Ito Horror Comic Collection

Hey Bookies,

Well it took me at least until the very end that this book was just a continuation of one story. It's just broken up into different parts and scenarios. Also it took me that long that the title said Tomie instead of Tome. I can read, I swear. Anyway, there isn't much to say about this that won't ruin the story. I'm also curious what kind of thing Tomie is to keep coming back to life. I wonder if any of the other books or stories will explain. I've pretty much ended this book with more questions than answers. As much as I liked this book, I can only give it three stars. Only because I can't say much about it. It is a quick read and only took me a few hours to finish. I know these stories are supposed to be scary as well, but they just confuse me because I'm too focused on what the heck Tomie is. I do plan on getting more works done by Junji Ito, but I don't know when I will get them. I guess we will just have to keep our eyes out for it.

So until next time....

Started reading The Junji Ito Horror Comic Collection

Hey there Bookies,

I picked up a quick read. Also I've heard a lot about Junji Ito and I just had to read their work. I'm already about halfway through and I'm having difficulty trying to see the meaning behind the story. The first one I read, Tomie, I kind of got. But the second one, Photograph,  not so much. I'm about to read the third one called Kiss and I'm curious what the meaning will be. These are fascinating stories so far and I'm breezing through them. Maybe I'll find a deep dive into them on Youtube once I finish this collection. Maybe I'll even watch some movies inspired by this work of art. I wish I could say more but I think that would ruin what you will get once you read the collection.

So until next time...

Almost done reading Lock Every Door

Hey there Bookies,

I've been devouring this book. I can't put it down. Also I'm getting to the part where everything is being revealed and I can't spoil that for you. Jules is our main character. She is jobless after getting laid off from her job and homeless after finding her boyfriend cheating on her. Jules been crashing at her friend's house until she can get back on her feet when she sees an ad to be an apartment sitter at the most famous apartment building in Manhattan, The Bartholomew. She thinks it is too good to be true but she takes the job anyways. She even makes friends with a sitter staying in the apartment below her. But things get weird when her new friend suddenly disappears without a trace. When Jules tries to find out what happened to her friend, she falls down a rabbit hole of secrets that weren't meant to be discovered. The book does alternate between two different timelines. The times she lives at the Bartholomew and the time she has at the hospital six days after her arrival. The whole time you are reading this book and you are trying to figure out how she ended up in the hospital to begin with. What was she running from? That alone makes you want to read the book. But as you read more about her time there, you want to read more because she discovers mysteries and secrets. Its so hard for me to even put the book down long enough to do anything else. Did we get our first five star of the year? We will just have to find out once I finish the book but I do highly recommend this book.

So until next time...
